Cocoa Beach in Florida is Orlando's closest beach.  It's also home to the world famous "Ron Jon Surf Shop".  The pier is a great place to walk around and if you pick the right day, you might actually see a shuttle taking off from Kennedy Space Center.  A good part of my childhood was spent making sand castles at this beach.  The sand at Cocoa Beach is very fine and light gray in color.
